British Former Foreign Secretary William Hague announces a plan to erect a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the iconic freedom leader who led India’s non-violent independence movement against the English colonial rule, at London’s Parliament square.

The Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust aims to raise one million pounds to place a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square. As the father of the world’s largest democracy, it is fitting that Gandhi’s statue will stand in front of the mother of parliaments.
